| STUDENT VOLUNTEERS |
Being a Student Volunteer
SVs' work and engagement will be essential to the success of CLIHC
2003. As an SV you will work 20 hours on tasks such as preparing
the conference participants bags, helping people to find sessions'
locations, setting up audio and video for speakers, etc.
All tasks provide opportunities to interact with CLIHC 2003 contributors, attendees, and committee members from different parts of the world and from diverse areas of the HCI community.
						  Benefits
In return for their help at the conference, all SVs will receive
benefits that include: conference registration and proceedings,
a conference reception ticket, an SV Tshirt and the right to attend
one tutorial. Other benefits include opportunities to meet and collaborate
with HCI professionals, to get in contact with "famous names"
						  and make new friends :-).
We will try to arrange for reduced housing rates and some free meals. Again, make sure to bookmark this web page and check it regularly for updated information on the SV Program of CLIHC 2003.
						  Commitments and Responsibilities
SVs must commit to 20 hours of work at the conference between the
17th and 20th of August 2003. They are responsible for their own
housing, travel to and from Rio de Janeiro, and the meals that are
						  not provided.
When you apply you are not making any kind of commitment.
If you'd like to participate but aren't sure yet if you will be
able to attend, feel free to apply.

Qualifications
Volunteers must be undergraduate, fulltime M.Sc. or Ph.D. students
during the 2003 academic year. All students, regardless of
discipline or area of interest, are encouraged to apply. No prior
						  experience is required.
How to Apply
						  Please use the
						  online application form
to volunteer. If you find any
difficulty accessing or using the online form, please contact the
						  Student Volunteer Co-Chairs at
						  clihc2003_sv@inf.puc-rio.br.
By the way, if you are accepted, a valid, dated student
identification card or a letter from your university or school will
be required when registering at the conference.

Selection Process
In order to make CLIHC 2003 experience equally available
to students from diverse cultures, we won't select SVs on a "first
come, first served" basis. Rather, we'll try to make a balanced
						  decision.
The volunteers initially selected were notified on May 1st, 2003 so they can begin making any necessary arrangements. The waiting list consists of both the applications received by March 31th, 2003 but not initially selected and the ones received after this date.
Accepted SVs will have the opportunity to join an unofficial e-group devoted entirely to student volunteering. This online community will, among other things, help interested students to get together and plan to share housing costs before the conference.
